During the fall 2011 semester, architecture and landscape architecture students at the BAC, in collaboration with its emerging Urban Landscape Lab, participated in the Malden River project - a project that aims to bring design improvements to the Malden River.

With a focus on the Malden River, the project covers much of the city north of Main Street and concludes at the Fells Reservation and Spot Pond - an original source point of the Malden River. The Malden River's long industrial history, urbanization, and aging municipal infrastructure systems have contributed to its current polluted state.

On December 14, 2011, BAC students presented their future visions of the Malden River in an open forum at the Malden Public Library. This open forum gave the public an opportunity to view their proposals, meet with students, and ask questions.
